Digital Marketing for Sustainable Business: Strategies for Inclusive Growth and Innovation in Bangladesh

Abstract

Digital trends in Bangladesh are growing fast and they are changing the way businesses operate, including digital marketing for businesses. Trends from 2000 to 2023 show exponential growth of internet penetration rate (0.1% to 78%), social media users (0 to 62 million) and SMEs with online presence (below 1% to 60%) besides other demographic data. The proliferation of mobile financial services, which peaked at USD 21 billion in 2023 and the growth in the number of female digital entrepreneurs (from 1,000 to 180,000) highlight the potential of digital platforms to provide access to everyone, including women. E-commerce market was valued at USD 0.001 billion in 2000 and is estimated to reach USD 5 billion by the year 2023, thus indicating potential and confidence of consumers towards digital products. The research takes a multi methodological approach, contrasting quantitative trend analysis with qualitative evaluation of inclusivity and innovation. The past 23 years data of National ICT; BTRC data, World Bank and e-commerce associations covering 2000–2023 in digital adoption, SME participation, female entrepreneurship and renewable energy deployment in ICT are analyzed for growth trends. Challenges are how do we have equal access, how is rural and urban digital divide growing and coming in the way and also integration of renewable energy with ICT for sustainability. It testifies the fact “Inclusiveness and Innovation” in Digital Marketing is a pathway of sustainable business growth and socioeconomic development for Bangladesh. The policy agenda and development of skills are also important for realizing the potential of a digital economy.
