For the third time, the Department of Architecture, AIUB, as part of its Outreach Program has organized “Student Photography Competition”, welcoming young students from schools and colleges across Bangladesh. For this year’s competition, the theme was “Winter in Bangladesh” or “Boats of Bangladesh”. The total number of online registrations was 272, among which Top 20 has been shortlisted for exhibition.
A spectacular “Award giving ceremony” was held on Sunday, 26th May 2024 in AIUB permanent campus. The event was followed by exhibition of the participants’ photographs and student works, followed by a guided tour of AIUB campus which made the occasion more interactive. Faculty and students of the Architecture Department were present, along with participants and their guardians.
The prize-giving ceremony, held at the multipurpose hall of Annex 7, commenced with a welcoming speech from the Head of the Department, Ar. M. Arefeen Ibrahim. After that, audio-visual presentation on AIUB Campus, the Department of Architecture and the selected photographs from this year’s competition were shown to the audience. Next, the “Student Works’ exhibition” was inaugurated by Ar. Arefeen Ibrahim, along with other respected faculty members from the Department of Architecture. The Exhibition consisted of the shortlisted entries from Competition and selective works from Design Studio – I, IV, VI & IX.
The Jury board consisting of Ar. Ashik Ikbal, Ar. Tarek Morad, Ar. Nazifa Zabeen Siddque and Ar. Saiful Hasan Tariq, selected the following winners from all these fantastic submissions.
1st Position: Mark Rejoice Mugdha Baroi from Notre Dame College, Dhaka
2nd position: Majedul Karim from Sylhet Government Aliya Madrasa
3rd position: Nafis Rubayet from BCIC College
There were Two Commendation Awards as well for:
Zunaid Hasan from Gabtali Government College, Bogura
Md Josim Uddin from Government Islampur College
The winners, brimming with enthusiasm, expressed their gratitude to AIUB for providing this platform and shared their inspiring experiences. M. Arefeen Ibrahim, with his presence and motivating speech, further fuelled the atmosphere of excitement. He also extended his heartfelt appreciation to the event organizers, whose spontaneous hard work brought success to this grand event. The program was skilfully hosted by Ar. Nazifa Zabeen Siddique and meticulously organised by Ar. Md. Rashed Hasan, Ar. Tarek Morad, Ar. Md. Obaidul Haque, Ar. Fatema Nur Sumaita, Ar. Alvi Md. Ragib Nihal Khan, and Sanjid Islam along with the dedicated student volunteers from the AIUB Architecture department.
The spontaneous participation of students and faculties and cordial support from the university administration & the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) made this event vibrant and thriving. Following the enthusiastic response from participants, the Architecture Department wishes to continue similar events in the future as well.
