Abstract
Bangladesh is an agricultural nation and the land is important in food production. The factors such as soil damage, erosion, and disappearance of biodiversity slow down the production of crops and bad impact in the natural balance. It is worth preserving the soil and nature to maintain the strength of farming in the future. The solution is to farm in a safe and healthy manner in terms of biodiversity-friendly farming. It employs alternative crops, trees in the farms and natural procedures that enhance the soil and minimize the harmful chemicals. Agroforestry is also significant in the effort to fight climatic changes and also in sustaining rural livelihoods particularly in tropical areas. This paper was done in order to comprehend the way biodiversity-friendly agriculture helps in the ecosystem services and better agricultural performance in Bangladesh. It has utilized secondary data as early as 1994 until 2023 and featured six primary factors such as soil quality, water sustainability, climate resilience, biodiversity index, crop yield, and food security index. The changes and trends were observed over thirty years with the help of a simple number approach. The relationship between biodiversity, crop yield and food security were learned using basic statistical tools. The data shows that biodiversity changed over the years. It was high in 1994 went up again in 1996 but dropped in 1997. It became high again in 2003 and 2005 and it kept going up and down. So, biodiversity does not remain constant and is subject to change. The years that had greater biodiversity like 2003 and 2005 were connected to healthy soils and natural pest’s control because of wide variety of crops and reduced usage of chemicals. This has led to loss of animal and plant habitats and over use of chemicals in those years where biodiversity was low such as the year 2001. Organic agriculture is friendly to biodiversity and ensures that soils are fertile, that there is pollination, control of pests and water management and minimizes pollution. There should be proper training of the farmers and policies put in place by the government. Through these practices, a more sustainable and greener future of agricultural activities can be achieved in Bangladesh.
