Abstract
In Bangladesh’s economic growth, the Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector is undoubtedly one of the driving forces and the leading sources of employment. This analysis aims to examine sustainable practices in Bangladesh's RMG industry over the years 1994 to 2023. Utilizing secondary quantitative data from the period 1994 to 2023, which highlights specific trends of how the business adopted sustainable business practices. An innovation index has been added to assess the innovation within the company, and the sustainability rating out of 5 is given for each year for the performance of the business. The findings reveal varied outcomes regarding the implementation of sustainability policies. Reflecting a 15% growth, adoption rates of specific practices increased in water-saving tech. While there were periods of advancement in sustainability metrics, the overall trajectory demonstrates a cyclical pattern, which suggests a disconnect between the stated goals of policies and their effective application in practice. The study underscores the significant impact of policy measures on sustainable practice, adoption of practices, and innovation levels, showing conflicting gaps in the garment industry. As the sector still faces challenges in becoming fully sustainable, future studies should focus on this sector.
