AIUB Environment Club Organized a Seminar on Environment Sustainability

To celebrate World Environment Day 2026 under the theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future," the AIUB Environment Club, with the support of the Department of Chemistry and facilitation from the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), organized a seminar and the prize-giving ceremony for its Poster Presentation Competition on the afternoon of Monday, June 22, 2026.

The seminar, titled "Why Environmental Sustainability Matters?", was held at the Multipurpose Hall of D-Building, AIUB. The program commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. S. Mosaddeq Ahmed, Head of the Department of Chemistry, AIUB.

The keynote speaker, Ms. Maliyat Maruf, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Reporting Coordinator at Bunzl Asia Pacific, Australia, shared her expertise on the growing importance of sustainability in today's world. A chemist-turned-environmentalist, Ms. Maliyat works at the intersection of sustainability, data analytics, and corporate responsibility. During her presentation, she highlighted how data-driven approaches can promote sustainable growth, enhance transparency, and generate positive environmental and social impacts. The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer segment, during which students and faculty members actively interacted with the speaker.

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mahbub Rabbani of the Department of Chemistry. He expressed his sincere appreciation to the keynote speaker, faculty members, students, and members of the AIUB Environment Club for their valuable contributions to the successful organization of the event. As a token of appreciation, Prof. Dr. S. Mosaddeq Ahmed, together with faculty colleagues from the Department of Chemistry, presented Ms. Maliyat with a commemorative crest and a gift box in recognition of her insightful presentation and generous contribution.

The program concluded with the announcement of the winners of the Poster Presentation Competition by Prof. Dr. S. Mosaddeq Ahmed. Following the evaluation of nearly 20 team submissions, the judging panel selected Visionary Trio as the Champion, Nature Nexus as the First Runner-Up, and Nova Bloom as the Second Runner-Up. Crests, certificates, and gifts were presented to the winning teams, judges, volunteers, and participants. The event concluded with group photographs to commemorate the occasion.

Among those in attendance were Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam, Associate Professor of Chemistry; Dr. Farzana Khalil, Associate Professor of Chemistry; Dr. Md. Anisur Rahman Jamil, Assistant Professor of Chemistry; Dr. Abdullah Al Nahid, Assistant Professor of Chemistry; Dr. Jahida Binte Islam, Assistant Professor of Chemistry; faculty members from various departments; participants; and members of the AIUB Environment Club.

The event effectively raised awareness of environmental issues and reaffirmed AIUB's dedication to sustainability. It motivated officers, teachers, and students to actively participate in environmental preservation and help create a more sustainable and green future.
