The Magna Charta Observatory (MCO) initiated ‘Responsive and Responsible University’ in 2022, to support academic research looking into the role of universities in the context of the 21st century. The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) is part of ‘Responsive and Responsible University’, and partnering with the Mykolas Romeris University, has been conducting research on community engagement initiatives of universities from 2023. The first workshop on these projects were held on November 2023, in Poland, where AIUB virtually presented their project. Focusing on “engage with and respond to the aspirations and challenges of the world and to the communities they serve”, a second edition of MCO Research Workshop was hosted by Mykolas Romeris University from 28-30th May 2024. Three faculties of AIUB, participated in this workshop in Vilnius, Lithuania. The faculties are Dr. Farheen Hassan; SFHEA, Professor, Faculty of Business Administration, Dr. Rezbin Nahar, Director, Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Business Administration and Ms. Nazia Farhana, Assistant Professor & Program Assessor, AIUB-IQAC.
The research workshop was attended by the dignitaries of Magna Charta Observatory, Mr. David Lock, Secretary General, Professor Giga Zedania, Chair of the Research Committee and Mr. Iva Lomidze, Research Assistant. As part of this project AIUB is carrying out initiatives encompassing a range of endeavors, such as fostering opportunities for young women entrepreneurs, engaging in community service to raise awareness, developing affordable and sustainable housing for the low-income group and free education for underprivileged children. The research locality for this project is Korail slum area in Dhaka. The research participants from AIUB presented their progress of the project in the Workshop and was well appreciated by the other participants. The other project participants were from Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland, Macedonia and Ireland. These research projects are supervised by Ambassadors, and they were Dr. John Davies from United Kingdom, Dr. Chris Brink from South Africa, Dr. Ivan F. Pacheco from United States of America and the Ambassador for the AIUB research project was Dr. Ella Ritchie from United Kingdom. After the workshop the project from AIUB and Poland, have been selected to be presented as MCO's input to the IAU's International Conference in Japan from 22 - 24 November, 2024.
The workshop enhanced the quality and eventual impact of the research projects developed under the MCO’s Responsive and Responsible Universities by the partner universities. It facilitated the interactions between participating universities and their ambassadors by addressing common issues that are identified and enabling universities to benefit from the comments of other participating universities and ambassadors.
