AIUB In-House Engineering Project Contest ’13
AIUB EEE Department and IEEE AIUB Student Branch had jointly organized the grand finale of the In-House Engineering Project Contest on Thursday 13th June, 2013. The grand finale had been embraced with a notable gathering from both academy and industry. Over 50 students had participated in the competition. Those who went onto use the project to develop quality work were invited to submit their supporting designs and completed objects. After two evaluation phases conducted by Judges from the EEE faculty, 10 groups with outstanding projects were selected for participating in the grand finale.
The event was inaugurated with a keynote speech by Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, the Honorable Vice Chancellor of AIUB, who gave an excellent introduction to the grand finale with an overview on the participating projects. She mentioned, it would help students to learn the different perspectives of putting their ideas into real world practice and lead the effort towards entrepreneurship. Prof. M. A. Quaiyum (Registrar), Prof. Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain (Dean of Faculty of Engineering), Md. Abdur Rahman (Asst. Prof. & Head, Faculty of Engineering), Mr. Rinku Basak (Asst. Prof. & Head of Graduate Program), Mr. Nafiz Ahmed Chisty (Faculty and Special Asst. of EEE Department), Mr. Ebad Zahir (Lecturer) , Mr. D. M. S. Sultan (Faculty) , Mr. Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan (Asst. Prof. & Special Asst. of OSA) and Ms. Laila Nawsheen Manzoor (Lecturer and Special Asst. of EEE Department) from the Engineering Faculty have enlightened the occasion with their valuable remarks together with the comments from the distinguished industry guests to fetch the winners of this competition at the end. The event has also been graced by the presence of Dr. M Tanseer Ali, Mr. Sayedus Salehin, Mr. Mahir Asif Mohammed, Mr. Shantanu Nath, Mr. Shafquatul Islam, Mr. Arman Riaz Ochi, Mr. Rethwan Faiz, Mr. Md. Mamunur Rashid, Mr. Raja Rashidul Hasan and other respected faculty members from the Faculty of Engineering.
The external judges of the event were Mr. Md. Anwarul Haque (Head of SBRC Solution Lab, Samsung Bangladesh R&D Center), Mr. Md. Tawhidul Islam Chowdhury (Lead Engineer of SBRC Solution Lab, Samsung Bangladesh R&D Center), Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed (General Manager of Technology Division, Robi Axiata Ltd.), Mr. Hasan Mahmood Shaifuddin (General Manager of Technology Division, Robi Axiata Ltd.) and Mr. Ahasanul Kabir (AGM Business Development, Pi Labs Bangladesh Ltd.). Industrial experts appreciated the initiative taken by AIUB EEE Department and IEEE AIUB Student Branch and mentioned such event as undeniably fantastic, deep in merit and compelling in its imagery.
The project entitled as, “Robot for Disaster Management Using Mobile Network”, presented by Rahman, Md. Muktadir and Iqbal, Md. Ashif, secured the Champion position. The 1st Runner-up position and The Best Poster Award winner was the project, ‘Design & Implementation of Dual Axis Solar Tracking System’. The project, ‘GSM Network Controlled Automation, Security & Wireless Electronic Notice Board System’ obtained the 2nd Runner-up Position. In Junior Best Project Category, the project, ‘Automatic Room Light Controller & Counter’ won. ‘Quadro-Falcon’ project nominated as the Honorable Mention of the event.
The project exhibition continued for about 4 hours and then led into the Prize Distribution Ceremony. Before signing off, Prof. ABM Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Mr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Head, Faculty of Engineering handed the souvenir of gratitude to each industrial guest.
