Another milestone in the life of the American International University-Bangladesh unfolded today when it was awarded the ISO 9001:2008 by SGS-UKAS in a simple but meaningful ceremony held in the Auditorium of the university. After almost a year of preparation and implementation of the 2 stages of auditing process which involve orientation-trainings, review of systems and procedures, documentation, actual audit based on the Quality Manual, and compliance to the recommendations, AIUB became the first university to be awarded by SGS-UKAS the ISO 9001:2008 Certificate with a scope: “Quality Management Operation System for the University”. The event was attended by the Deans, Asso. Dean, Program Directors, faculty members, students from four Faculties, the Administrative Officers, the key officers from corporate houses, AQAC members, SGS Team and the Press.
It was indeed a journey for AIUB to undergo the process of certification but the vision to provide quality and excellent services to the stakeholders prevailed. The preparation was tedious as it entails establishing a new system of documentation through codification and development of new systems and procedures. The eight (8) clauses such as: the scope, references, terms and definitions, quality management system, management responsibility, resource management system, product realization and measurement, analysis and improvement were the guidepost towards reaching the goal of certification. Each clause requires comprehensive description and exhibits to prove that indeed the situation asked for is existing in the university management operation system. Each of these clauses was audited to validate both documentation and actual ocular visit to the different components of the university and interview of the concerned individuals responsible for the clause.
The ceremony was presided over by the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna who received the award from the Managing Director of SGS, Mr. Ariel Miranda. Mr. Miranda congratulated AIUB for its exemplary performance in the audits and appreciated the kind support and cooperation of the AIUB management for the successful certification process. On the other hand, the honorable Vice Chancellor was extremely pleased for the award which manifests the strong effort and cooperation of the AIUB officers especially AQAC under the leadership of the Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Charles C. Villanueva for making this award truly an honor and prestige for the university.
