The AIUB World Cup 2026 officially commenced on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, with a vibrant opening ceremony held at the campus of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Drawing inspiration from the FIFA World Cup 2026, the tournament replicates its official competition format, with all 48 participating departmental teams representing the nations that participated in the FIFA World Cup 2026. This distinctive initiative recreates the excitement of the world’s premier football tournament on campus, providing students with an immersive football experience while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and meaningful participation in extracurricular activities.

The event was graced by Ms. Nadia Anwar, Founder Member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, AIUB, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Manzur H. Khan, Proctor, AIUB; Dr. Ziarat H. Khan, Deputy Director, Student Services and Welfare, AIUB; and Mr. Md. Joynal Abedin, Coordinator, Office of Sports, along with students, faculty members, and administrative officials.

In her opening address, the Chairman praised the Office of Sports for its professional and spirited organization of the tournament. She congratulated Team AIUB on their remarkable achievement in winning the Inter-University Futsal Tournament 2026, recognizing the team’s dedication, and outstanding performance in bringing pride to the university. She also expressed her gratitude to the volunteers and participating teams whose commitment and coordination continue to drive the success of AIUB World Cup 2026. She noted that the tournament is not only a stage for competition but also a dynamic platform where students cultivate teamwork, discipline, leadership, and the true spirit of sportsmanship.

This year’s tournament features 48 departmental teams, reflecting the growing popularity of the Football Championship as a vibrant platform for sportsmanship, interdepartmental collaboration, and student engagement. By adopting the FIFA World Cup format and national team identities, the competition offers participants and spectators an authentic international football atmosphere while celebrating the diversity and unity of the AIUB community.
