Independence has an entirely different meaning for every country, and even more so for those who had to earn it by paying with far more than just a pound of flesh. Our independence was brought to life by all those who sacrificed theirs - we paid for it in blood. Every year we commemorate the martyrs and their sacrifice that defined our roots and freedom across the country, hoisting the colors of red and green and revisiting history that paved the way for our present and future. And this year, the student club community came together to pay their tributes to the day that marked the near end of our years of struggle and loss of lives, earning us our long-awaited independence. The AIUB Arts Club (AAC), the AIUB Drama Club (ADC), the AIUB Performing Arts Club (APAC), and the IEEE AIUB Student Branch collaborated their efforts and turned it into a reality. AAC organized an Art Competition themed on the “History of Independence”, the submissions of which were showcased in an Exhibition on campus, where the top 3 were selected based on the student votes and staff scores. In memory of the “Dark Night”, on the 25th of March 2018, ADC put together a street play titled, “Ek Birangonar Golpo”, that told the story of a brave-heart who lead a rebellion. And finally the day was brought to a close with the “Shadhinotar Joyogaan” Concert, arranged by APAC, where several musical performances and patriotic classics that resounded the very notions our liberation. The IEEE AIUB Student Branch brought the programs to life, as the technical support for graphics and driving the promotional campaign for the 3 events. Upholding the spirit of 1971 even today, the event inspired everyone to strive for more, echoing the sentiments of determination and encouragement, bringing the spirit of overcoming the hardships of life and embracing the pride of our independence and the motherland we fought so hard for. AIUB is proud to witness the patriotism still alive and beating amongst the hearts of every single student, and together, salutes all the lives that were given to earn this freedom that we hold dear, that allows our youth to dream big and reach for the stars today, just the way millions had done before us.
