The 8th General Conference of the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) organized by AIUB was held on 8th November, 2008 at the Hotel Westin, Dhaka. The Conference was inaugurated by Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, Honorable Advisor to the Caretaker Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) Prof. Nazrul Islam and President of AUAP Prof. Iu Vai Pan were present as the special Guest. The Vice Chancellor of AIUB and the incoming President of AUAP delivered welcome addressed. In his speech, the Chief Guest emphasized on 3 areas as paramount importance, such as (a) The understanding of knowledge management, (b) Re-engineering of current practices of knowledge management, (c) Combined efforts of key stakeholders in order to create synergy. He also given importance to create atmosphere for developing human resource by 3 sectors, i.e. Government Universities and Industry. The chairman of the UGC has given importance that the relationships among 3 sectors be established for the interest of the Country as well as the needs of the society. The outgoing President of the AUAP hoped that the AUAP will keep it’s strength to maintain cooperation among the Universities of the region. The new president of the AUAP and the Vice Chancellor of AUAP expected the cooperation of the member universities for upgrading the activities of the AUAP in the near future. The occasion was attended by the Presidents, Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Govt. representatives from Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Iran, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines. The inauguration session was followed by the Plenary session where distinguished speakers presented keynotes papers. The closing session was ended by the remarks and vote of Thanks from Dr. Anwarul Abedin- Founder Chairman of AIUB, outgoing President of AUAP Prof. Iu Vai Pan and Dr. Ruban Umaly, Secretary General of AUAP. The Vice Presidents, Pro Vice-chancellor, Deans, Faculty members and Officials of the AIUB were also present.
