Book Launching - Justice Abu Md Abdullah's Contribution To The Legal Arena: Judgements During His Lifetime

The Law Department of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) conducted a book launching ceremony on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. The book "Justice Abu Md Abdullah's contribution to the legal arena-Judgements during his lifetime" was unveiled at the event. The book has been edited by Professor Dr. Taslima Monsoor, the Advisor of the AIUB Law Department. The book is more than a mere collection of words, as the anchor of the program had put. It is rather a testament to the editor’s hard work and dedication, as well as an experience, as the editor, Dr. Taslima, is the daughter of Justice Abu Md Abdullah.

Numerous guests, readers, and well-wishers attended the event to commemorate Honourable Justice Abu Md. Abdullah's contributions to the legal profession and jurisprudence. The Honourable Attorney-General of Bangladesh, Mr. Mohammad Asaduzzaman, was among the well-wishers and served as the chief guest at the ceremony.

Furthermore, Professor Dr. Muhammad Ekramul Haque, the Honourable Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Dhaka, was in attendance as the special guest. Present among the attendees were the Honourable Vice Chancellor of AIUB, Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, the Honourable Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB, Professor Dr. Abdur Rahman, and the Honourable Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of AIUB, Professor Dr. Tazul Islam. The anchor, Fahim Faisal Khan Alabi (Barrister-at-Law), Lecturer, AIUB Department of Law, subsequently introduced all guests and special attendees to the audience.

The ceremony commenced with the welcome speech of Dr. Taslima, the editor of the book. She paid tribute to the extraordinary legal acumen and jurisprudential legacy of Justice Abu Md. Abdullah, who served as a judge from 1960 to 1970, during her speech. Further, she mentioned that Justice Abdullah's profound judgements, which encompassed a wide array of legal disciplines, left an indelible impact on the legal landscape of the country during his tenure as a judge of the Supreme Court. Dr. Taslima stated that readers will not only uncover the legacy of a distinguished jurist 

but also the enduring relevance of his legal philosophy and the profound impact of his judgements on the legal interpretation and implementation as they explore the pages of this book before concluding her speech. In conclusion, Dr. Taslima observed that the book serves as a tribute to Justice Abu Md. Abdullah's exceptional contributions to the field of law and his unwavering commitment to justice.

Advocate Rafi Ahmed, a Lecturer in the AIUB Law Department, was invited to provide a concise overview of the life and profile of Honourable Justice Abu Md. Abdullah following the welcome speech. In addition, Md. Golam Mostofa Hasan, Assistant Professor of Law at Jagannath University, provided succinct remarks regarding the book during the ceremony. The audience was treated to special video messages, respectively, from Mr. Ragib Mahtab, Senior Assistant Judge of the Bangladesh Judiciary; Professor Dr. Syeda Afroza Zerin, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Uttara University; and Mr. Khaled Rahman, Assistant Professor of Law at AIUB and currently a PhD Candidate at Clark University, USA.

The special guest of the evening, Professor Dr. Muhammad Ekramul Haque, underscored the necessity for the Justices of the Bangladesh Supreme Court to cultivate sound jurisprudence in order to provide accountability, justice, and impartiality to the general populace. Dr. Haque expressed his gratitude for the invaluable judgements rendered by Justice Abu Md Abdullah. Dr. Haque also emphasised that the judgements rendered by Justice Abu Md Abdullah played a significant role in the development of contemporary society and the growth of the jurisprudence in the legal arena.

The chief guest of the evening, Mr. Mohammad Asaduzzaman, the Honourable Attorney-General of Bangladesh, paid tribute to Justice Abu Md Abdullah. Mr. Asaduzzaman expressed that the legal arena necessitates learned Justices such as Mr. Abu Md Abdullah, during a range of legal discussions with the audience. He recognised the fact that the judgements delivered by Justice Abu Md Abdullah continue to be considered valid legal precedent to this day. Afterwards, he urged the students to engage in constructive legal learning, as opposed to result-oriented learning, which should concentrate on the comprehension and interpretation of a variety of laws and their respective impacts in our society.

The end of the evening marked the thanksgiving speech delivered by the Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB. He expressed his gratitude to the guests who dedicated their valuable time to attending the book launching ceremony. Ms. Ferdousi Begum, Assistant Professor, Barrister Fahim Faisal Khan Alabi and Advocate Soeb Akter, Lecturer, Department of Law, AIUB, organised the ceremony on behalf of the AIUB Law Department.
