Dhaka, August 19, 2026: Students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) visited Somoy TV as part of an academic study tour aimed at providing practical exposure to professional news production and strengthening the connection between classroom learning and the newsroom.

Students enrolled in the Reporting and Editing and Investigative Journalism courses participated in the visit. The study tour was led by Assistant Professor Afroja Shoma, a former broadcast journalist who teaches both courses.

During the visit, the students attended an interactive session with leading professionals from Somoy TV, including Head of News Mujtoba Khondokar; Assignment Desk In-charge and News Presenter Tamim Khan Toha; Senior Manager of Human Resources and Administration Syed Asaduzzaman; Political Editor Syed Ahmed Salehin; Assignment Editor Afzal Hossain; Special Correspondent Selia Sultana; and Senior Reporter Abdullah Shafi.

The professionals shared their experiences of news gathering, verification, newsroom decision-making, reporting, editing, and presenting news to audiences. The session provided students with valuable insights into how journalists transform events and incidents into timely and meaningful news reports.

The students also visited different departments of the television station and observed the newsroom in operation. They had the opportunity to witness the real-time news production process and gain a firsthand understanding of the pace, coordination, and professional responsibilities involved in television journalism.

The study tour reflects JMC's commitment to experiential learning by enabling students to connect academic knowledge with professional practice. Such industry exposure is expected to help students develop a deeper understanding of contemporary journalism and prepare them for careers in the rapidly evolving media industry.
