Center for Nanotechnology Research inaugurated at AIUB

The Center for Nanotechnology Research (CNR) was inaugurated (re-opened) at American International University-Bangladesh on September 25, 2025. Honorable founder member and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees, American International University-Bangladesh, Dr. Hasanul A. Hasan, and honorable Chairman, Bangladesh Accreditation Council, and Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS), Professor Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed inaugurated the research center. Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Treasurer Dr. Nisar Ahmed, Deans, Associate Deans, and Directors of different faculties, Heads of different departments, faculty members from different departments, and senior officials of American International University-Bangladesh were present in the inaugural ceremony.

The CNR was established in 2020 and gradually expanded by implementing several research and development projects. Recently, it has been shifted to a permanent building (Annex-9), furnished well and equipped with modern sophisticated instruments. Notably, a PhD fellow has been appointed to the center under the BAS-USDA Endowment program (6h Phase) for the research project, “Desalination of water and soil using nanomaterials and nanotechnology”.

The In-Charge of CNR, Dr. Mohammad Mahbub Rabbani (Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, and Deputy Director, Dr. Anwarul Abedin Institute of Innovation, AIUB) introduced Lab facilities and instruments installed in the center to the guests. Dr. Hasanul A. Hasan (Honorable founder member and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees, AIUB) reiterated his continuous supports and suggested some activities for the development of the center to a global scale. Professor Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed (Honorable Chairman, Bangladesh accreditation council) anticipated breakthrough research output from the center which will participate in solving national problems and contribute to 

national economy utilizing nanotechnology. Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, honorable Vice Chancellor of AIUB focused on high impact journal publication conducting outstanding research work at the CNR.  Honorable Pro Vice Chancellor of American International University- Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, briefly shared the story of the development of CNR, available facilities and probable prospects of the CNR, as he was involved in establishing and developing the CNR from the very beginning.

Professor Dr. Md. Abu Bin Hasan Susan, Department of Chemistry & Director, Dhaka University Nanotechnology Center (DUNC), University of Dhaka and Fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS), Professor Dr. Md. Jashim Uddin, Department of Soil, Water and Environment, University of Dhaka, and Professor Dr. A. J. Saleh Ahammad, Department of Chemistry, Jagannath University and associate fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) were present among others. They have expressed their interests in establishing research collaboration.
