As part of its steadfast commitment to clinical legal education and the practical application of jurisprudence, the Department of Law at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) conducted an academic field visit to the Manikganj District and Sessions Judge Court on 30th April 2026. The delegation was led by Dr. Robayet Ferdous Syed, Head of the Department of Law, accompanied by three other faculty members of the department: Assistant Professor Ferdousi Begum, Barrister Fahim Faisal Khan Alabi and Md. Muhtasim Faiaz. The initiative served as a vital pedagogical bridge, allowing students to transition from abstract statutory analysis to the observation of procedural law in a live judicial environment. The visit was meticulously structured to align with the curriculum of the Department of Law on Criminal and Civil Procedure. Students were granted the opportunity to observe the mechanics of the "bench and bar" interaction, focusing on several key areas of judicial administration. Firstly, students observed the practical application of the Evidence Act, witnessing the strategic nuances of witness testimony and the rigour of examination in chief and cross-examination within the courtroom. Secondly, through the observation of live proceedings, the delegation gained insights into the discretionary powers of the judiciary and the procedural requirements for the adjudication of complex litigations. Finally, the visit underscored the importance of professional conduct and the ethical standards expected within the hallowed halls of the district's highest court. In a conference held on the Manikganj Court premises, Dr. Robayet Ferdous Syed articulated the necessity of such academic excursions, stating that “theoretical mastery is incomplete without an understanding of the procedural realities of the court system”. He noted that exposing students to the Manikganj Judgeship fosters a more profound comprehension of the rule of law and the institutional challenges of the Bangladeshi legal framework. Dr. Robayet further emphasised that this visit is a cornerstone of AIUB’s broader mission to produce graduates who are not only academically proficient but also prepared for the rigorous demands of the legal profession. The engagement concluded with a formal exchange of views between the students and judicial officers, reinforcing the academic link between the university and the state's legal institutions. Mr. SK.M. Tofayel Hasan, Senior District & Session Judge of Manikganj, was presented with gifts on behalf of AIUB for facilitating this visit. Mr. Tofayel thanked Dr. Robayet Ferdous Syed, Assistant Professor Ferdousi Begum, Barrister Fahim Faisal Khan Alabi and Md. Muhtasim Faiaz for organising this court visit that greatly benefitted the students.
