From the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997-98 to the Global Recession of 2008, policymakers have encountered increasingly daunting challenges in navigating their nations through these turbulent times. At AIUB FBA’s department of Business economics we believe that the cultivation of a robust economic education is of utmost significance in the development of competent leaders, scholars, and policymakers who possess the requisite knowledge to formulate more efficacious policies and enhance the overall state of the national economy.

By enrolling in courses such as  Microeconomic Theory , Macroeconomics of Developing Countries , Development Economics , Political Economy , Economics of Natural Resources and Environment , Comparative Economic Analysis , Bangladesh Economy , Labor Economics , Health Economics, and more students can be comprehended more effectively by acknowledging fundamental economic principles such as tradeoffs, opportunity cost, and cost-benefit analysis. The decision-making process of an individual, whether it be as a consumer, worker, investor, entrepreneur, or voter, is intricately connected to the broader societal and economic context. Hence, it is indisputable that individuals possessing economic and financial literacy would be more capable of making sound decisions, ultimately resulting in societal and economic benefits. Conversely, the rapidly expanding business sector has a significant demand for graduates who possess a comprehensive understanding of both domestic and international markets and economies, and are capable of executing strategic planning and quantitative analysis.

The program endeavors to equip students with a comprehensive comprehension of economic and financial matters, encompassing both theoretical and empirical aspects. The primary objective of this program is to foster the development of critical thinking and analytical abilities among students in their examination of economic issues and phenomena. The program offers undergraduate students the chance to study economics. The educational objectives of the program place significant emphasis on the capacity of undergraduate students to grasp the fundamental principles of economics, and to apply economic and financial theories in a rigorous manner to analyze real-world economic phenomena. The primary objective of the Department of Economics at the University is to comprehensively comprehend the generation and allocation of resources at the individual, corporate, and societal levels, and to assess the social policies that influence these phenomena. Our approach involves conducting rigorous research on urgent social issues and imparting advanced knowledge of economic methodologies and critical perspectives to students across all levels of education.
