The third IEEE Bangladesh Section SYW Congress was held on the 13th of June, 2015 at United International University (UIU) for students, Young professionals and Women in Engineering (WIE). 50 student members from IEEE AIUB Student Branch attended the day-long congress along with participants from BUET, DU, BRACU, EWU, AUST, MIST, RUET, NSU and IUT.

The event was initiated with opening speeches from Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section and Professor, Dept. of EEE, BUET,  Dr. Mohammad Rezwan Khan, Professor & Vice Chancellor, UIU, Dr. Trisha Sabrina, Counselor, IEEE UIU SB and Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE, UIU and A. N.M. Nasimunnabi, Chairperson, IEEE UIU Student Branch. Each student branch presented their Activity Plans for 2015. Representing AIUB, Nasim Al Islam, Chairperson, IEEE AIUB Student Branch put forth the year’s agenda which fetched IEEE AIUB Student Branch the Best Activity Plan Award. Technical and professional talks were held on “Nano Photonics” by Soumitra Roy Joy, Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, BUET and on “Leadership & Motivation” by A.K.M Al-Amin, Regional Operation Head, Grameenphone. The event was also followed by  debate session among chairpersons of different student branches, ice breaking session, quiz contest as well as cultural program which encouraged all to interact and exchange ideas. Apart from these, selected participants including Mohammad Zean, member of IEEE AIUB SB presented their idea on “Technical Solution of the Country’s Extreme Problem” as a part of the idea contest.

The Women in Engineering (WIE) session was conducted by Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair, WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section and Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE, BUET which included a talk on “Computational Biology” by Dr. Jesmin, Professor, Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Dhaka University and an interactive session. 7 female students from IEEE AIUB Student Branch participated enthusiastically and won first, second and fourth positions in the interactive quiz contest. Mr. Chowdhury Akram Hossain, Mentor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch & Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering also joined the event and motivated the students to build strong networks and participate actively in such prestigious events.
