Venue:
Gonokbari, Savar, Dhaka-1349

On Thursday, July 31, 2025, Faculty of Engineering (FE), AIUB, in collaboration with AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES), organized an Industrial Visit to the Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE) in Gonokbari, Savar, Dhaka. A group of total 22 students and along with Dr. Gour Chand Mazumder (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) and Mr. Md. Ashiquzzaman (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) engaged in the visit to enhance their understanding of nuclear research and advancements in atomic energy technology.

The visit commenced with an introductory briefing by Mr. Md. Shamsul Islam (Principal Librarian, Scientific Information Unit (SIU), AERE), who elaborated on the current research initiatives, stringent safety measures, and the critical role of atomic energy in modern science. Following this session, Dr. Md. Abdul Malek Soner (Director & CSO, Institute of Energy Science) led a comprehensive discussion at the nuclear reactor, providing in-depth explanations about reactor operations, radioactive material management, and their wide-ranging industrial applications. This segment offered students a rare opportunity to observe the operational dynamics of nuclear reactors and their associated research implications. The next segment was conducted by Mr. Mohammad Anwar Hussain (Chief Engineer, Radioisotope Production Department), who delivered a session on isotope doping, highlighting its scientific foundation and industrial significance. To reinforce the concepts, a live demonstration showcased its real-world applications.

The visit concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing students to engage in thought-provoking discussions, clarify queries, and enhance their understanding of nuclear technology. As a gesture of gratitude, a token of appreciation was presented to Dr. A.S.M. Saifullah (Director General, Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE)). Tokens of gratitude were also extended to the other three distinguished presenters who provided briefings to the students. The visit served as a valuable educational experience for students, offering comprehensive insight into the advanced applications of atomic energy.
