The Department of Law at AIUB successfully hosted its flagship event, Law Evening 2.0, on 3rd May 2026. Anchored by Barrister Ashiqur Rahman and Ms Delara Hasan Ananna, the evening served as a bridge between the past, present, and future of the department. The event’s primary purpose was to welcome incoming freshmen students, bid farewell to graduating students, and celebrate the professional achievements of alumni who recently became Advocates through the Bangladesh Bar Council Examinations. Professor Dr Tazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Among the faculty members of the Department of Law present were Assistant Professor Ferdousi Begum, Lecturer Md. Jahedul Islam and Lecturer Md. Muhtasim Faiaz.
The formal proceedings of the event included significant insights from departmental leadership. Dr Robayet Ferdous Syed, head of the Department of Law, in a comprehensive address, welcomed the audience, spoke to the freshmen students regarding discipline and future careers, and offered a warm farewell to the graduates. He specifically emphasised that "life is not just about law books but also beyond that," highlighting the necessity of co-curricular and extracurricular engagement. Dr Robayet urged the freshmen students to fully embrace their university life. In this regard, Dr Robayet advised the freshmen students to engage themselves not just in studies but also in other curricular and extra-curricular activities offered by the Department of Law and the AIUB Law and Mooting Society. Dr Robayet, in his final deliberations, congratulated the Alumni those who became Advocates of the Bangladesh Bar Council. Dr Robayet remarked that this professional achievement should not be their last; they must strive for more in the legal field to bring pride to their families and AIUB. Further, Dr Robayet opined that in today’s society there are several Advocates with severe knowledge constraints, but this should not be the case with AIUB Law Alumni. Dr Robayet stressed that our Alumni should be among the best-performing lawyers in court. Finally, to the new Advocates, he advised that they must apply the legal knowledge gained at AIUB to their professional legal practice with utmost honesty, integrity and good faith. Barrister Fahim Faisal Khan Alabi, Faculty Mentor of the AIUB Law and Mooting Society (formerly the AIUB Moot Court Club), encouraged freshmen to immerse themselves in mooting mock trials, legal debates, pro bono work, and academic research, such as blog and journal writing. He also stressed that the Society aims to bring the opportunity to gain practical legal learning to the students of the Department of Law.
The programme provided a platform for students to share their academic journeys. Two representatives from the freshmen cohort shared their initial feelings about joining the department, followed by two graduating students who reflected on their experiences at AIUB. To honour their success in the Bangladesh Bar Council Examinations, all faculty members joined the stage for a crest-presenting ceremony, officially recognising the department's new Advocates.
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of the department's successes. The team consisting of Amanat Jihad, Afia Jahan, and Faiyaz Hasan Rafi, who recently participated in the 24th Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot Asia-Pacific Regional Rounds held in Hong Kong, officially handed over their championship trophy to the Department. Further, LLB Spartans, the Department’s own student-led cricket team, had won the runners-up trophy at the AIUB Premier League, which was also presented to the Department of Law. Barrister Fahim Faisal Khan Alabi received these trophies on behalf of the department and presented crests to the champion team members.
The first leg of the program concluded with well-wishes for the students' future endeavours. The "last leg" of the evening transitioned into a vibrant cultural showcase organised by the students in the Law Department, allowing them to demonstrate their extracurricular talents and skills. The anchors of the programme thanked the faculty members, Dr Robayet Ferdous Syed, Barrister Fahim Faisal Khan Alabi, Soeb Aktar and Rafi Ahmed, for organising the entire event and making it a success.
