In response to the challenge of globalization in all sphere of socio-economic development, the American International University-Bangladesh continuously pursue the challenge using various strategies to ensure that the institution is on track. The internationalization of its academic programs is one of these approaches. After more than two years of discussions/negotiations, these institutions of learning have come to terms. The review focused on the resources of both universities particularly on the business administration program for better complementation and that the academic requirements are both complied with. The general terms and conditions are clearly spelled out to guide both institutions in implementing the partnership with more objectivity and acceptability.
Today, the 5th of July 2011, the representatives of Monash University, Australia Prof. Dr. Valerie Cloluw, Head, School of Business and Economics and Ms. Loree Ambrose, Manager, Student Services arrived in AIUB to formally forge the partnership by signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the representatives of the American International University-Bangladesh(AIUB) led by Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Matiur Rahman, Asso. Dean, Dr. Nisar Ahmed, Director Graduate Program, Dr. Ehsanul Huda Chowdhury, Director, BBA and Ms. Tahziba Choudhury, Assistant Director of ORP and International Affairs. Both sides expressed their appreciation and satisfaction on the realization of this academic partnership which cover primarily areas on international student exchange under the 2+2 scheme,. The other areas are on research collaboration which would build the capacities of those who will be involved in the research activities such as comparative study, cross-cultural exploration and multi-disciplinary approach. Faculty and scholars exchange, cooperative seminar, exchange of academic information and materials and other activities of mutual benefits and interests are other areas covered by the agreement. The partnership will have a strong impact on the enrichment of existing programs of AIUB and discovering new horizons in higher education. The MoU will remain enforce for a period of 5 years.
For better appreciation and obtain first hand information about the AIUB’s resources and capacities, the representatives of Monash University were ushered to the 7 campuses of the university which included a briefing from the Asso Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Hasan Imtiaz Chowdhury and Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, a staff from VUES and Mr. Suja of the IT system and infrastructure. The visit also included a meeting with the Department Heads of the Faculty of Business Administration and a seminar attended by the BBA and FASS students on International Student Exchange. The seminar generated interests from the students to participate in the student exchange program. This partnership with one of the world class universities from Australia would add prestige to AIUB and at the same time an opportunity to share resources and expertise in the field of business administration. It is hoped that this partnership will be expanded to include the other Faculties of the university in the immediate future.
