Our lives revolve and depend on different sources of energy. To reduce CO2 emission and limit the global temperature the concept for solar cars is a great alternative to diesel cars. With the collaboration of faculty members and students, three prototype environmentally friendly and economically viable lightweight electric cars have been designed which is solely powered by solar energy. Our designed solar electric car can accommodate 8-9 people at a time, it averaged a speed of 40 kilometers per hour, and from the campus to the main road of Kuratoli several test drives were made. Our car's size is nearly the length of two rickshaws, which can be a perfect rickshaw substitute as it is doubled from rickshaw length. This is going to have a positive impact on the traffic issue in Dhaka City. Among the three batteries, two were of 48 volts and one of 60 volts. In which four solar panels were used for 48 volts and 5 solar panels in 60 volts. Backup batteries are used for cloudy days and nights. Batteries are mainly charged by solar energy. At midday, when the sun is at its highest point solar cells can absorb power up to 70% and with the backup up to 35%. The solar cells absorb some of the energy from the sun and store it in the electric car's batteries. Before this occurs, power trackers transform the energy obtained from the solar array to the appropriate system voltage so that it can be used by the batteries and the motor. Recently, mineral resources whole-sellers like fuel, coal, etc. having a hard time keeping pace with the growing demand. For the brakes, drum brakes are used, though these brakes can be upgraded with disk brakes. However, drum brakes can control the vehicle. Besides, drum brakes are cheaper to produce than disk brakes because there are fewer moving parts and the parking brake can share a drum with normal brakes in the rear. One motor is powered with two 48-volt batteries and the motor is coupled with the differential gear system. The designed vehicles are powered by the rear wheel, connected with the differential gear system. And the motor is wired to the differential gear system. Finally, these cars are designed in such a way that no solar power is wasted for example, when the car will be on running motor will take power from the solar panel. In fact, if the vehicle doesn’t move the power will be stored automatically in the batteries. The whole design ensures that no power is being wasted.
