When Ms. Rubana first entered at the campus 1 Auditorium of AIUB, all the students who were eagerly waiting for her presence, stood up and greeted her collectively. Rubana smiled and murmured ‘it’s huge!’ As she stared at the stage, a banner on the top was stating the theme of the talk show ‘Women Entrepreneurs of Bangladesh: Status, Problems and Prospects’. Her immediate reaction was ‘I object to the label of ‘Woman’ Entrepreneur, because I face adversities as a person and not as a woman. Apart from perhaps being physically a little weaker than a man, I think I have all that it takes to be in business. Ms. Rubana Huq, the Managing Director of Mohammadi Group faced the American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) Students in a Talk show titled ‘Women Entrepreneurs of Bangladesh: Status, Problems and Prospects’ on 9th February, 2012 which was arranged and moderated by Ms. Anisa Sultana, Faculty, Management & HRM,AIUB .
Ms. Rubana Huq has been actively empowering five thousand women who manufacture and export a million pieces of ready-made garments every month. She heads MG Properties Limited, the Real Estate Division of the group and was also engaged in media as a CEO of TV Southasia uplinked from Kolkata, India from 2006-2010. Besides her corporate identity, Rubana is a poet, having won the SAARC literary award in 2006 and is currently pursuing PhD at Jadavpur University, India.Fortunately she was accompanied by her Husband Mr. Anisul Huq, President of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI), who gave an inspiring entrance on the stage by sharing the journey of his establishment today. This co- pruners focused on the key aspects to be a successful entrepreneur. One after another they addressed the questions raised by the moderator and students such as role conflict, gender bias, family support, social mindset, relationship, necessity of knowledge and habit of learning and studying, integrity, humbleness, work-life balance and assertiveness.
The show started with the welcome note by Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and reached its height when he handed over the certificate and AIUB souvenir to the couple. Along with was the Vote of Thanks addressed by Dr. Nisar Ahmed, MBA Programme Director. Since it was the birthday of Ms. Rubana, the particpatns greeted her with a happy birthday song. |
