During 'AIUB Architecture Week 2024,' the Department of Architecture at American International University-Bangladesh organized a lecture event under the banner of 'Dr Anwarul Abedin Lecture Series' on July 01, 2024. In this event, the guest speaker was Dr. Abu Sayeed M Ahmed, Professor & Dean (School of Environmental Science & Design), Department of Architecture, University of Asia Pacific (UAP). He is the author of four books related to historical monuments and conservation. Recently, he received the "Award of Merit" of the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Presidential Medal, and the IAB Award 2023.
Dr. Abu Sayeed M. Ahmed is a renowned architect and architectural conservation specialist from Bangladesh. He served as the President of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) from 2013-2016 and President of the Architects Regional Council of Asia (ARCASIA) from 2021-22. Professor Sayeed is actively involved in the heritage protection and preservation movement in Bangladesh and is currently engaged in several restoration projects. Some of his notable projects include the conservation and adaptive reuse of Nimtali Deuri, the restoration of Baro Sardar Bari, National Folk Art Museum, the restoration of a Mughal Mosque at Keranigonj, the restoration of a brick temple in Wari Vatweshar, the restoration of Varendra Research Museum etc.
President of IAB, Dr. Khandaker Shabbir Ahmed, Professor, Department of Architecture, BUET, graced the program. M Arefeen Ibrahim, Head, Dept. of Architecture, and the faculty members of Architecture Dept. of AIUB were present in the ceremony. The participation of architects, academicians, and students from different universities made the event successful. The audience was highly motivated by the presentation of Dr. Abu Sayeed M. Ahmed. The lecture ended with an interactive question-and-answer session. Nazifa Zabeen Siddiqua, Assistant Professor, department of Architecture hosted the program.
The event was only possible because of the spontaneous hard work of student volunteers and organizers (Irfat Alam, Assistant Professor; Mehedi Amin, Assistant Professor) and the support provided by the AIUB administration.
