Visit to Bangladesh Television (BTV) by the Department of Media and Mass Communication

TV Production and Introduction to Journalism course, a group of 60 students and 3 faculty members of MMC department, paid a visit to Bangladesh Television on June 19, 2014. The purpose of this visit was to inform and enlighten the students –how the news room, production department, program department works together to run a TV channel.
Bangladesh Television (BTV), a state-owned national TV station began its operations in 1964. Besides education and entertainment, its mandate is to ensure the equitable dissemination of information to the mass people and contribute to the nation's socio-economic development of Bangladesh. It telecasts various program comprising drama, documentaries, musicals, education and information, including 14 News bulletins in English and Bangle daily. The vision of the present Government is to make "Digital Bangladesh" by 2021 and BTV is working on it.
From this visit the MMC students learned about the technicalities involved in the transmission of BTV. They also have been shown news room, program department and the high power transmitter used for international transmission of BTV. The officials of Bangladesh Television were very helpful in guiding the students through all the sections of the transmission and production center. BTV has started "BTV World" satellite Transmission on April 11, 2004. As a result BTV has now reached beyond the borders."BTV World" transmits 24 hours satellite programs daily. Besides, BTV is going to open another channel namely "Development Channel" through satellite very soon. BTV has a potential coverage of about 97 percent of the country's population.

Every semester MMC students visit different private TV channels for learning and improving the knowledge on the Electronic Media Bangladesh.
