On Sunday, June 28, 2026, the IEEE AIUB Student Branch successfully organized a webinar titled “Smart Home Demonstration and How to Create Your Own Web Things to Your IEEE Organizational Unit.” The webinar aimed to provide students with a clear understanding on creating web things and a demonstration walk through of how these technologies can be applied within their own organizational units.
The program commenced with the inaugural speech by Dr. Gour Chand Mazumder, Assistant Professor, FE, Dept. of EEE, AIUB and Counselor, IEEE AIUB SB. He thanked the IEEE AIUB Student Branch for organizing such an informative session and emphasized the importance of practical knowledge and innovation in emerging technologies. He then invited the distinguished speaker of the session, Ms. Kathy Giori, Founder and CEO of Tricycle Corp and Head of Global Partnership and Outreach at MicroBlocks. The speaker began by introducing herself and sharing her professional journey along with her experience in WoT and smart technologies. During her presentation, she demonstrated smart home systems and provided a detailed guideline on how to create “Web Things” for real world applications with an introduction of different user-friendly high level modern drag and drop code compilers like MicroBloks. Furthermore, she discussed important aspects such as device integration, communication protocols, and system design, while encouraging students to develop innovative solutions and apply WoT concepts in practical scenarios.
The webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session where the speaker addressed various queries from enthusiastic participants, creating an engaging and informative discussion environment.
Following the Q&A session, Dr. Mazumder delivered the closing remarks by thanking the speaker for her enlightening session as well as the IEEE AIUB Student Branch for organizing the webinar. Afterwards, he presented a virtual token of appreciation to the speaker.
The event started at 8:00 PM and concluded at 9:30 PM (GMT +6). A total of 95+ participants attended the program.
