WORLD INNOVATION SUMMIT FOR EDUCATION (WISE)

The VC, Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, represented the University and IAUP in the World Innovation Summit for Education. Organized and funded by Qatar Foundation, supported by Exxon-Mobile, Qatar foundation and Microsoft, the summit which was held last No. 12-15, 2010 in the Qatar National Convention Center, Doha, was attended by 1,200 of the most influential thought and prominent leaders around the world. The International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) is a partner organization together with Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, Association of Commonwealth Universities, Institute of International Education, Rand Corporation and UNESCO. The WISE is the vision of Her Highness Sheika Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, to encourage the emerging network of global education leaders to think differently in confronting the challenges of building the future of education. The annual WISE is a major international gathering that brings together leaders, decision makers, practitioners and creative individuals from multiple sectors to address the challenges of education. The theme of WISE 2012 is “Collaborating for Change”. There were at least 50 sessions which had explored how education can be transformed through innovation, collaborative actions and partnerships. The summit had attracted global recognition for the ambitious mission and for its achievements in improving the lives of individuals and communities by transforming education. The rich diversity of the delegates had resulted in many exciting ideas and discussions. The program had progressed from reflecting on the current state of education to considering emerging practices and doing things differently to build a learning world.
