On Thursday, September 25, 2025, the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), in collaboration with Birmingham City University (BCU), UK, successfully organized the 4th capacity-building training session as part of the ongoing British Council funded Transnational Education (TNE) Exploratory Grant initiative project titled "Developing an international professional certification program for digital manufacturing at AIUB." The session focused on the theme, “Why Industry 5.0 Matters for Bangladesh Now.”
The session was hosted by Mr. Mahamudul Hassan, Assistant Professor, Department of IPE, AIUB. The keynote speaker was Dr. Shishank Shishank, Associate Professor, Digital Transformation and Operation Management, Birmingham City University, UK, who expertly conducted the session.
The program comprehensively explored the transition from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0, beginning with an analysis of the current state and ripple effects of Industry 4.0 in Bangladesh, which clearly distinguished it from the human-centric principles of Industry 5.0 and emphasized its strategic necessity for the nation's industrial growth, followed by an interactive session on its practical applications. The session then transitioned to a detailed presentation on the Smart-SIP project, covering its framework, the concept of multiple demonstration sites, an overview of the SIP cold storage system, and the implementation of Machine Learning models, culminating in a lively Q&A session that allowed for direct engagement with the participants.
The event concluded with a virtual token of appreciation presented to Dr. Shishank Shishank, Associate Professor, Digital Transformation and Operation Management, Birmingham City University, UK by Mr. Mahamudul Hassan, Assistant Professor, Department of IPE, AIUB. The session was formally closed by Prof. Dr. Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan, Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. The program, attended by over 90 participants from academia and industry, ended with a virtual group photo, successfully advancing the project's goal of building digital manufacturing capacity in Bangladesh.
