The Faculty of Engineering (FE) of American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) organized a seminar titled “Creativity and Innovation: Challenges in Scientific Research” included in the “Dr. Anwarul Abedin Lecture Series” by renowned researcher Dr. Debatosh Guha (Professor, University of Calcutta, India & IEEE Fellow) on May 20, 2024 (Monday) at 11:00 AM-12.30 PM in the Auditorium, D-Building, AIUB. The research talk was on the significance of creativity in the search of innovative scientific discoveries. Prof. Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain (Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) inaugurated the webinar with a welcome speech where he identified teaching, research, and community service as the main three objectives of any university. He drew attention to how any project in AIUB aims to fulfill at least one of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and emphasized the importance of conducting research for the benefit of mankind.
In the beginning of his engaging talk, Prof. Dr. Debatosh Guha shared his intent to talk about topics that are not related to specific research results but to the interest of the Engineering community in general. Dr. Guha described a chronological timeline of certain important scientific discoveries related to electromagnetism during his engaging talk. He pointed out how these milestones in research were accomplished gradually over the years, and mankind cannot rely on one specific person to continue the next step of any research. During the later half of the talk, he shared the story of his past research involving Defected Ground Structure (DGS) antenna and his current work on addressing diagonal plane cross polarization and fundamental aspects of antenna design. He ended his talk by asserting that easily breakable challenges do not inspire research, rather research is something that makes seemingly impossible things possible. Following an interactive question answer session, Prof. Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain and Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan (Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) presented the honorable speaker with a token of appreciation from AIUB for sharing his valuable time and insight. The seminar concluded with a group photo of all the participants of the seminar.
