On Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025, the Department of EEE, AIUB, in collaboration with WEPOWER supported by IEEE AIUB Student Branch and hosted by IEEE AIUB Student Branch WIE Affinity Group, successfully organized a distinguished lecture session titled “Empowering Future Leaders: Exploring Renewable Energy Pathways for Female Students.” The session aimed to inspire and equip female students with knowledge, skills, and opportunities in the Electric Power sector specifically Renewable Energy sector.

 

The session commenced with Kashfia Zaman, Assistant Project Manager at Grameen Shakti, who provided an insightful presentation. She discussed renewable energy basics, the energy scenario in Bangladesh, and Grameen Shakti’s mission to deliver clean energy at affordable costs while empowering women and reducing poverty. She elaborated on technologies such as Solar Home Systems, Solar Irrigation, and Biogas Plants. Her presentation also highlighted internship and mentorship programs for female students and the female-friendly work environment at Grameen Shakti. Building on this foundation, Engr. Md. Bazlul Haque, Head of the Technical & Rooftop Department at Grameen Shakti, delivered an engaging talk. He shared the historical context of Grameen Shakti and its renewable energy initiatives, emphasizing the benefits and job prospects in the solar energy sector. He shared real-life experiences, customer feedback on solar panels, and the involvement of non-technical women in renewable energy projects. He motivated participants to consider careers in renewable energy by discussing its potential and societal impact. Concluding the series of presentations, Mohsina Taz, Graduate Trainee in Digital Solution & Innovation at Robi Axiata PLC, shared her experiences and global initiatives like Shoktikonna aimed at empowering women in the energy sector. She stressed the importance of STEM education, creativity, and sustainability in addressing challenges and encouraged attendees to seek opportunities in clean energy solutions. Her motivational speech inspired participants to explore innovative ways to contribute to the renewable energy sector.

The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session and a group photo featuring speakers, faculty, and attendees. Following this, participants visited the Rooftop PV system on AIUB’s top floor, where they were given an overview of operation of a grid-connected PV system and how the students can engage themselves with PV system related field work.

 

The session started at 3:00 PM and ended at 6:00 PM (GMT +06). A total of 50+ participants attended.
