On Monday, December 30th, 2024, the IEEE AIUB Student Branch successfully organized the event titled “IEEE AIUB Student Branch Members’ Orientation 2024”. The members’ orientation aimed to recognize and appreciate the dedicated efforts of students and faculty members who served on the governing body during the previous year, to welcome incoming members and introduce them to the structure and foundation of the IEEE AIUB Student Branch. The event featured engaging presentations, interactive media, and discussions led by the branch's Executive Body and distinguished faculty members who oversee the branch.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering, American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB), Advisor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, who emphasized the significance of IEEE membership, AIUB’s esteemed reputation, and the value of networking for students. He also highlighted the importance of extracurricular activities while advising students to prioritize academics. Following this, Dr. Ziarat Hossain Khan, Deputy Director, Office of Student Affairs; Associate Professor, Faculty of Business Administration, AIUB, discussed AIUB’s vision, the benefits of joining internationally recognized organizations, and the significance of maintaining a professional LinkedIn presence. Dr. Mohammad Hasan Imam, Associate Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, elaborated on opportunities for international collaboration and access to foreign university facilities through IEEE, while Dr. Md. Ehasanul Haque, Senior Assistant Professor, Department Head, Department of Industrial & Production Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, reinforced the importance of IEEE, work-life balance, and extracurricular engagement.
Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice-Chancellor, American International University–Bangladesh and the Chief Guest of the event, shared profound insights into the evolution of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He discussed networking challenges, early computing systems, RF engineering, and career prospects, inspiring attendees with his expertise. He also elaborated on key areas such as microwave engineering, power engineering, and the benefits of IEEE membership. Highlighting the drastic reduction in the cost of electronic devices over time, he traced the transition from mainframe to miniframe computers and reflected on the evolution of electrical typewriters and printers. Additionally, he emphasized the significance of integrated circuits and microprocessors in shaping modern technology.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Department Head, Graduate Program, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB provided guidance on career development, professional networking, and higher studies. The event concluded with Dr. Shameem Ahmad, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Counselor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch announcing the 2025 IEEE AIUB Student Branch committee and presenting token of appreciation to the distinguished faculty members for their contribution and support towards IEEE AIUB SB. The session successfully motivated students to engage with IEEE and contribute to technological and societal advancements.
The event started at 4:00 PM and ended at 8:00 PM. A total of 140+ members attended the members’ orientation.
