The Media and Mass Communication (MMC) Department of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), proudly hosted the first-ever “A Daylong Mobile Photography Workshop and Competition” on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the campus of AIUB in Kuratoli, Dhaka. This highly anticipated event brought together budding photographers from across Dhaka.
The workshop, coordinated by Mr. Niaz Majumder, a senior faculty of the MMC Department, welcomed approximately 35 students from 14 schools and colleges. The day began at 9:00 AM with student registrations at the Media Studio, where each participant received caps and T-shirts as souvenirs. Following a breakfast, Mr. Majumder briefed the students on the technical rules and aesthetic flavor of mobile photography, setting the stage for an exciting day of creative exploration.
Participants were then taken on a guided tour of the AIUB campus, divided into four groups led by students of MMC. They visited various departments, the library, and other campus landmarks, capturing the stunning beauty of AIUB campus through their mobile lenses. This session provided a hands-on opportunity for students to apply their newly acquired skills in a real-world setting.
After the photography workshop session, students submitted their top five photos. An esteemed panel of judges had the challenging task of selecting the top five winners from the impressive array of submissions.
The event concluded with a much-anticipated prize-giving ceremony. Pro Vice-Chancellor of AIUB, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahman attended the program as chief guest, Prof. Dr. Tajul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Prof. Dr. A J M Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Department of MMC were present as special guests.
The prize giving ceremony commenced with a welcome speech by Ms. Afroza Shoma, Coordinator of MMC Department.
Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahman and Prof. Dr. A J M Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan both praised the students' enthusiasm and talent, encouraging them to pursue their passion for photography.
All participants received certificates of participation, while the top five winners were honored with crests and certificates.
This event not only highlighted the importance of mobile photography in today's digital age but also provided a platform for young photographers to showcase their skills and creativity.
