On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the Department of Economics under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) successfully organized a seminar titled “The National Budget of Bangladesh.” The event brought together students, and faculty members for an insightful academic discussion focused on the country’s fiscal framework and its broader economic implications.

The session featured an engaging and thought-provoking presentation by the distinguished Resource Person, Mr. Syed Yusuf Saadat, Economist at United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Bangladesh. He provided a comprehensive overview of the national budget of Bangladesh, explaining its structure, key priorities, and underlying policy directions. He highlighted how fiscal planning plays a crucial role in shaping economic growth, infrastructure development, employment generation, and social welfare initiatives. He also discussed current challenges in budget implementation, including revenue collection, expenditure efficiency, and balancing development needs with fiscal constraints. His analysis helped students bridge theoretical knowledge with practical policy applications.

The seminar created a highly interactive learning environment where students actively participated by asking questions and sharing their perspectives. This engagement allowed them to connect classroom concepts with real-world economic decision-making, making the session both dynamic and insightful. The seminar was graced by the presence of the Honourable Dean, Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, and other respected faculty members of the department. Their participation reflected the department’s strong commitment to promoting academic enrichment beyond classroom learning and encouraging students to engage with real-world economic issues.The session was moderated by the Head of the Department of Economics, Dr. Faria Sultana, who guided the flow of the program and ensured an engaging and structured discussion throughout the event.

It significantly enhanced students’ understanding of national fiscal policy and strengthened their interest in public finance, development economics, and policy analysis.
