From 2020 onwards, AIUB has made substantial strides in advancing SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation through a multifaceted approach involving campus operations, community service, education, research, policy, and partnerships. On campus, AIUB ensures efficient water use and provides safe drinking water and sanitation facilities to its community. Beyond campus, it actively engages with society – raising hygiene awareness, aiding disaster-hit communities with clean water, and empowering citizens with knowledge about WASH. In academics and research, AIUB is cultivating expertise and innovation to solve water challenges, as seen by integrated sustainability in curricula and pioneering research projects in water purification, desalination, and sanitation technology. Underpinning these efforts are strong institutional policies and monitoring systems that uphold water conservation and hygiene standards as a campus norm. Finally, through global and local partnerships – from signing the SDG Accord to collaborating with organizations like BAS, USDA, and JICA – AIUB magnifies its impact and contributes to collective progress on clean water and sanitation.
