- Developing International Best Practices at AIUB through Global Collaboration and Research
AIUB has institutionalized a comprehensive strategy to develop international best practice on tackling the SDGs, primarily through extensive international collaboration and research. The university’s 2024 approach is systematic, designed to embed global standards directly into its operational and academic frameworks. This is achieved through a multi-layered strategy. Firstly, AIUB actively engages in bilateral partnerships with foreign universities, such as Hochschule Darmstadt (Germany), Sasin School of Management (Thailand) 1, Pan Pacific University (Philippines), and Danang University (Vietnam). These collaborations facilitate faculty and student mobility, joint research initiatives, and a platform to review comparative approaches in curriculum and pedagogy. Secondly, AIUB participates in high-impact multilateral research consortiums. Its involvement in the Erasmus+ SOHO project, for example, brings it into partnership with universities across Europe and Asia to develop international best practice for sustainable tourism. Similarly, its role as a supporting partner in the Durham University, UK "JusTN0W" project demonstrates collaboration on research for net-zero transitions. Thirdly, and most significantly, AIUB benchmarks its own institutional quality against the highest global standards. Its membership in the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) 1, receiving the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) Quality Award, and being a signatory of the Magna Charta Universitatum (MCO) are deliberate actions to adopt and develop international best practices. By participating in global policy dialogues like the IAU and QS Higher Ed Summits, AIUB actively reviews comparative international strategies on sustainability and education, ensuring its own practices align with global SDG efforts.

Key International Partnerships and Research Collaborations of AIUB
AIUB faculty members participated in Magna Charta Observatory Research Workshop II
AIUB's participation in the 2nd Magna Charta Observatory (MCO) Research Workshop in Lithuania (May 28-30, 2024) is a prime example of a multi-layered partnership. This event serves as a high-level international collaboration where faculty review comparative approaches with partners from Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland, and others, helping to develop international best practices on the "Responsive and Responsible University" initiative. Simultaneously, this collaboration with an NGO (the MCO, a global university network) is a formal research programme designed to tackle the SDGs. AIUB's research project, which was selected for presentation at the IAU conference in Japan, focuses on community engagement in Dhaka's Korail slum. The project's initiatives directly tackle local challenges by "fostering opportunities for young women entrepreneurs" (SDG 5, SDG 8), developing "sustainable housing" (SDG 11), and providing "free education for underprivileged children" (SDG 1, SDG 4).
