American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) actively participates in policy making at local, regional, national, and/or global levels to implement programmes and policies to end poverty in all its dimensions. This participation is evident in its roles as both a contributor to national policy development and a leader in global policy discourse. At the national level, AIUB leverages its research capabilities to influence policy. The most significant 2024 example is its partnership in a World Bank-funded research project on solar irrigation. By hosting "Policy Engagement" and "Dissemination" workshops with high-level government bodies like the Ministry of Agriculture and BADC, AIUB is directly participating in the "research-to-policy" pipeline to end poverty in rural Bangladesh. Furthermore, AIUB's leadership engages directly with national bodies like the University Grants Commission (UGC) to shape higher education policies on scholarships and academic standards. At the global level, AIUB has committed to international policies by becoming a signatory of the SDG Accord and the Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU). The university then participates in policy making by presenting its own successful poverty-reduction models, such as its project in the Korail slum, at global forums like the International Association of Universities (IAU) Conference.

AIUB hosts Dissemination Workshop on Solar Irrigation and Climate Adaptation
On December 11, 2024, AIUB hosted a "Dissemination Workshop" for a yearlong collaborative research project on solar irrigation, supported by the World Bank. This event is a prime example of participation in policy making at the national level. The workshop's purpose was to present research findings to key policymakers, including the Guest of Honour, the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture. By providing this "research-to-policy" platform, AIUB actively contributed to shaping national programmes and policies for climate adaptation and sustainable agriculture, which are critical for ending poverty for farmers in Bangladesh. This initiative aligns with SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Policy Engagement Workshop on collaborative research - "Social Innovation Through Technology"
Held on February 7, 2024, this event was the "Initiation of Policy Engagement Workshop" for the same World Bank-supported project. The event's title and participants (including the Chairman of BADC and a Director from SREDA) confirm its function as direct participation in policy making. AIUB provided the academic platform for stakeholders from government, international bodies (World Bank, ADPC), and academia (Durham, Curtin) to collaborate on developing a "behavioral toolkit for diffusing solar irrigation." This programme aims to influence farmer behavior and national policy to increase adoption of climate-smart technology, a key strategy to end poverty in rural communities. This demonstrates AIUB's role in shaping national policy from the ground up, in line with SDG 1, SDG 7, and SDG 17.

AIUB is a signatory of Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU)
AIUB announced its status as a signatory of the Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU) 2020 on April 16, 2024. By signing this global policy document, AIUB formally commits to promoting "social responsibility" and "engaging with and responding to the aspirations and challenges of the world and to the communities they serve." This is a clear participation in policy making at the global level. As part of this commitment, AIUB is implementing a project in the Korail slum focusing on policies to end poverty, including low-cost housing and education for the underprivileged. This demonstrates AIUB's adoption of global-level policies and its translation of them into concrete local action, addressing SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
