Low-income Student Support

American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) provides a comprehensive support system for students from low-income families, ensuring they have free or subsidised access to essential services that enable them to complete university. This support structure addresses critical needs such as food, housing, and healthcare. The university's on-campus Medical Center offers free medical care, consultations, and emergency services to all students (https://www.aiub.edu/sustainability/aiub-good-health-and-wellbeing). Recognizing the importance of mental well-being, AIUB also provides access to professional counseling and mental health services. To address housing needs, AIUB has a formal partnership (MoU) with Super Hostel to provide safe, accessible, and affordable accommodation for both male and female students. Furthermore, AIUB has institutionalized food assistance programs. In 2024, the AIUB Shomoy Club, with university backing, organized large-scale drives providing essential food and medical supplies to over 1,200 flood-affected families and 150 underprivileged families during Eid. This demonstrates a robust, university-wide capacity and culture for providing basic needs, which is available to its own low-income students as well as the wider community. AIUB has several decent admission policies, scholarships, and low-income student support services and these initiatives provide support for essentials like food, housing, and transportation, offered as free or subsidised options (or both). This commitment ensures students from low-income families receive the necessary assistance to successfully complete university.
